Rolling fields of the Budjak steppe in Gagauzia

Places to visit in and around Gagauzia

Three small towns, a scatter of villages, and the Moldovan classics that fit around them.

Gagauzia is small but spread out. The Comrat area holds most of what visitors come for: the capital itself, the museum village of Beșalma, vast Congaz and model Avdarma, all within half an hour of each other. Ceadîr-Lunga lies to the east and Vulcănești far to the south, each in its own patch of the region.

We have also included the places most travellers combine with Gagauzia: Chișinău, the underground wine cities, Orheiul Vechi, the Purcari estate and Cahul in the far south.

Plan your day in the south

Comrat, a village museum and a Gagauz table — in one day

Gagauzia is under two hours from Chișinău, but its museums and wineries are scattered across the steppe and village buses are thin. A guided day trip joins the dots and adds the stories.
