Where to stay in Gagauzia

A night in the Gagauz capital, a base in Chișinău, or a bed among the vines.

Be realistic about accommodation: Gagauzia has very few hotels, and only a small number can be booked online. Most foreign visitors therefore sleep in Chișinău and visit on a day trip. If you want to see more than one day allows, spend a night in Comrat or in a guesthouse in Congaz — it is worth it for the evening calm and an early start.

The properties below were found through Trip.com’s search. We do not quote prices or scores, because they change constantly — follow any link for live rates, photos and guest reviews. We have not stayed in every one; read recent reviews before you book.

Booking tips

  • Book Comrat early. With so few rooms, the town fills up around Hederlez in early May and the wine festival in November.
  • Guesthouses rarely appear online. Rooms at Gagauz Sofrası in Congaz and village homestays are usually arranged directly or through a guide.
  • In Chișinău, stay central. Tours pick up from city-centre hotels, and you can walk to restaurants in the evening.
  • Check the cancellation policy. Flexible rates are worth the small premium if your plans depend on a tour date.
  • Carry cash. Small properties in Gagauzia may not accept cards.

Still deciding how long to stay? The travel guide has one-, two- and three-day itineraries, and the getting there guide covers transport from Chișinău.

Plan your day in the south

Comrat, a village museum and a Gagauz table — in one day

Gagauzia is under two hours from Chișinău, but its museums and wineries are scattered across the steppe and village buses are thin. A guided day trip joins the dots and adds the stories.

Where to stay: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Are there hotels in Comrat?

Yes, but only a few, and not all of them are listed on international booking sites. Reserve in advance.

Should I stay in Comrat or Chișinău?

For a single day in Gagauzia, stay in Chișinău. For two or more days, a night in Comrat or Congaz saves driving and gives you the evening in the south.

Can I stay in a Gagauz village?

Yes. Gagauz Sofrası in Congaz has guest rooms, and homestays exist in several villages. They are usually booked directly or through a local guide.

Is there accommodation in Ceadîr-Lunga or Vulcănești?

Very little that can be booked online. Consider Comrat for the east and Cahul for the far south.

Are the wine estates near Gagauzia?

No — Purcari is in the south-east and Castel Mimi east of Chișinău. They are suggested as part of a wider wine trip rather than as a base for Gagauzia.
